The Arc of Orange County
Kevin is a husband, father, lover of travel, and is passionate about social justice and person centered care/supports, in that order. Kevin has worked in Human Services since his college days (which were further back in time than he cares to admit). He grew up in a small town in Ireland, just outside the capital, Dublin, and now lives in New York with his wife and family. He has lived in the USA since George W Bush was the president…which now seems like a lifetime ago.
He started his career as a Direct Support Professional, providing supports to people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) for a non profit organization on Long Island and found it challenging and rewarding to the sprit but not the wallet. Because of this (or despite it?!) he has become a passionate believer in person centered practices and an advocate for eliminating stigma and misconceptions about what it means to live with I/DD, mental health and substance abuse problems, and has dedicated his career to supporting those in need.
Through his career Kevin has been fortunate to have worked with amazing and dedicated professionals who have inspired his continued commitment to social justice, and led to his participation in cultural competence and health literacy workgroups as part of New York’s DSRIP health reform incentive program. He has most recently worked with The Arc of Orange County (formerly Orange AHRC and soon to be The Arc Sullivan-Orange Counties, NY) starting in 2014 as the Director of Residential Supports, and since 2016 has been the Associate Executive Director at the organization.
