Junior Leadership Orange (JLO) is a collaboration between the Orange County Youth Bureau and Leadership Orange for eighth‑grade students in Orange County; students are identified in seventh grade and begin formal training in eighth. The program builds leadership and life skills, offers career exposure, and prepares youth to become future business and community leaders through critical awareness and advocacy.

The JLO Experience
The Junior Leadership Orange program serves up to thirty-eight youth from sixteen different school districts in Orange County and operates during the academic school year. Students meet once a month on a school day and visit various locations in the county to attend interactive educational presentations. They meet with instructors and facilitators from a variety of sectors in leadership positions across Orange County and receive training in several areas including leadership, education and college readiness, the justice system, public speaking and communication, volunteerism, diversity, fiscal literacy, and quality-of-life.

Junior Leadership Orange Scholarship
The Leadership Orange Junior Leadership Orange Graduate Scholarship recognizes an outstanding graduating senior who has successfully completed the Junior Leadership Orange program and exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and civic engagement. This scholarship honors a student who has demonstrated meaningful impact within their school and community, embraced personal growth through the program, and shown a strong commitment to continuing their leadership journey beyond high school. The award celebrates not only academic achievement, but also character, initiative, and a dedication to strengthening our community’s future.
Award: $500
Scholarship Criteria:

Must be a graduating high school senior and a completed participant of the Junior Leadership Orange program.

Demonstrated leadership in school, community, employment, or extracurricular activities.

Active involvement in community service or civic engagement.

Submission of a 500–750 word essay responding to one of the provided prompts.

Submission of one letter of recommendation (teacher, employer, mentor, or Leadership Orange advisor)
